About digitalMETRO

Collection Policy

The digitalMETRO directory is intended to provide increased discoverability and access to online collections created and maintained by member libraries of the Metropolitan New York Library Council.

A collection may be included in the digitalMETRO directory if:

  • the creating institution is a member of the Metropolitan New York Library Council
  • the institution owns these resources and have permission for them to be accessed freely online
  • the collection includes at least 30 resources (images, audio files, finding aids, etc...)
See herefor information about submitting collections for inclusion in the directory.

Directory Ownership and Accuracy of Information

The digitalMETRO directory is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 United States License. Rights for individual collections and associated images, however, are retained by the individual institutions responsible for creating and maintaining those collections. Owners of collections included in the portal agree to defend and hold METRO harmless from any claims or damages which may result from users who download or otherwise use data from the portal or website in violation of an owner’s rights under state or federal law.

Responsibility for accurate data rests with the institution distributing the digital content. METRO does not warrant any information on the digitalMETRO. METRO recommends all sites have an online means of collecting information regarding the content accuracy and a policy for the review and revision of the site.

Adding Your Collection to digitalMETRO

METRO began this project by surveying member library websites and adding collections as frequently as possible. In many cases, METRO member libraries have multiple collections. In these instances, we have cataloged five collections, and welcome the addition of more collections by librarians most familiar with the. Please consider assisting in this work by submitting each collection for inclusion with the Contribute Form. For institutions with more multiple collections, please contact digitalMETRO administrators for information about batch uploading collections to the directory.

Removal of Collections from the Directory

The digitalMETRO administrators may remove collections from the directory if:

  • the site is not consistently and reliably available;
  • the resources are no longer accessible free of charge;
  • the site fails to comply with best practices, standards, and guidelines;
  • there is evidence that site content is inaccurate, out of date, or unreliable;
  • there is evidence of copyright violation.

Stewards of particular collections may request removal of a given collection by contacting the digitalMETRO administrators.

Technical Information
